This is an oil filled transformer being drained after a bus collision. I is hard to believe that with a 15mph speed limit someone could actually lose control and drive off the road. It is a monthly occurance. ISI maintains the medium voltage system and is responsible for these types of repairs. 95 today, 75 overnight lows.

Roses in bloom. These were bought for me by the locals in Kabul in April.
Interesting article in Stars and Stripes, yet another account of the ineptitude and shortcomings of the Afghan army and police. Nothing new here but, as we prepare to hand over provinces to them, the need for continued U.S. support is clear. It is interesting to read soldier's comments, those that actually do the recruiting, training  and fighting along side the Afghans.  For those that would like to read further:

Some areas are showing moderate success, and reports like this are an example of how provinces, towns and communities are learning how to put theirs lives together  after Taliban rule.
Stars and Stripes provides what I feel is are reasonably unbiased accounts of the war, you will not read these stories in your local paper.
Investigation and cleanup continues in Wardok province after the downing of the Seal  helicopter.
A news story about this area south of Kabul:

As with many provinces that are heavily occupied by Taliban, helicopter night raids are an effective counter measure with insurgent head counts averaging 340 per month. Drone strikes into Pakistan are an apparent attempt to stop the flow of replacements.
Wind, often steady at 30-40 mph and dust continue. 90's this week at 5000'. 110-120 at Kandahar and Jalalabad.
